Henry Castro, born in France of Portugese ancestry, contracted to bring emigrants from France to settle in Southwest Texas. Between 1843 and 1847 he brought 485 families and 457 single men, mainly from Alsace and across the border in Germany, to establish the earliest permanent settlements between San Antonio and the Rio Grande. Huth, Ferdinand Louis, 1813-1892.

Ferdinand Louis Huth was born in Baden in 1813. In 1844, he immigrated to Texas and as an agent of Henri Castro assisted in the settlement of Castroville, Texas.
